Sterling students show off their art skills at senior center show

STERLING – This thirty day period observed the return of the annual student artwork exhibit at the senior centre, where by dozens of special pieces established by Chocksett Middle and Houghton Elementary pupils in kindergarten by means of grade 8 are highlighted.

The exhibit runs by way of June.

“After a two-year hiatus, we are excited to deliver this party and the artwork of the pupils back to the Sterling Senior Centre,” mentioned Director Veronica Buckley. “What a talented group.”

An artists reception on May 3 drew a big group, which include the proficient young artists and their spouse and children and enthusiasts, this sort of as Houghton artwork trainer Kate Blehar and Chocksett artwork instructor Julie Guerin, who chosen the items for the display.

Blehar claimed “the opening was wonderful” and they had 170 site visitors attend the celebration.

“Artists had been happy to share their artwork with their friends and family members,” she claimed. “The function was a spotlight of the 12 months and a great culminating experience for our wonderful artists who labored tough all over the yr. Students have been excited and proud to have their work showcased in the present, it is an honor for college students and their families to be equipped to showcase their lovely artwork and expertise.”    

Buckley echoed her sentiments, indicating the reception “was so a lot pleasurable.”

“Seeing all the pupils, their families and the lecturers interact outside the house of the classroom is often a address,” she explained.

This the initial pupil artwork present at the center considering the fact that 2019, a tradition that started when the new senior heart opened in 2016.

Sterling student artist Lilly Mills with her art teacher, Kate Blehar, at the art show at the Sterling Senior Center. Lilly, a second grader, created an African elephant from chalk pastel and a black marker.

“We experienced been organizing the yearly exhibit in 2020 when the planet shut down,” Blehar said. “Needless to say, we ended up thrilled to be equipped to put on the present again this calendar year.”

Guerin explained “it’s great to have the display back again again” for the to start with time considering that the pandemic.
