Guilherme da Silva – BOOOOOOOM! – CREATE * INSPIRE * COMMUNITY * ART * DESIGN * MUSIC * FILM * PHOTO * PROJECTS

A choice of photos from a new zine by Sao Paulo-based photographer Guilherme da Silva (formerly featured below). While da Silva 1st bought the strategy for the project following a break up and impromptu photograph session with a friend in 2019, he did not start functioning on it once more until eventually December 2020 because of to the pandemic. All of the people showcased in the zine are LGBTQ+, with the intention of furnishing a utopian room for them to be who they certainly are without having worrying about how modern society sees them:

“As a queer particular person myself, I understood that most of the time of our lives we put in trying to conceal who we are to fit in culture, that when we are adults we don’t know who we genuinely are. For me it was a whole procedure to realize me and my community…. Staying a photographer in Brazil has in no way been uncomplicated. When I started out performing commercial work I experienced to adapt myself and I had to offer with some LGBTQ-phobic attitudes that finished up in depression. But it was not just the homophobia, I experienced to offer with criticism towards my approach, my light-weight and also the versions I needed to photograph. The moment I read from a pretty well known publication that the products I wanted have been ‘too gay’ for the journal.”

Overture is da Silva’s response to the treatment he’s confronted. Now turning to self-publishing, the zine’s title is a reference to the opening of an opera.
